Reward

February 18th, 2009 by bristow64

My father used to say that virtue is its own reward.  It sure was easier on his pocketbook.  Actually, I am thinking about a 88-93 Mustang Convertible 5.0 litre.  I think they have just about bottomed out in price and they are fun cars to drive and are fast and do sound authoritative.  Got to get off this plateau, though.  Tomorrow I am going to start 2 walking sessions.  Will try to do 3.75 miles in the morning in 1 hour, and a like amount before dinner in the evening.  I am trying to learn Spanish, and that really makes the walking fun.    Geoff

Slovenly

February 16th, 2009 by bristow64

Have been slovenly about goals, calorie intake has been good, am averageing an 700-900 calorie deficit 6 days per week, and am walking every day a meaningful length.  Have been on same plateau since 2/1/09 and it is discouraging.  The calorie/walking combination is not really hard, but is sure boring.

Challenge

February 11th, 2009 by bristow64

Congrats to all who have stepped out on the challenge.  Since I am retired and walk every day and do not use a gym I kind of felt like the real challenge was not for me.  I have challenged myself with a 1600-1700 per day calorie intake, 2.5 mile walk at 3.75 mph, 50 sit ups, and 3 sets of 8  30 lb per arm lifts. Should make a 900-1000 calorie deficit per day, one day a week off.   Goal is to lose 11.6 lbs from today.  Weight this morning was 251.6.  Reward is something major tho I have not really decided what.  Maybe a neat older car.

Looking forward to challenge

I am going to start a little early, will observe tuna day on Tues 2/10, hope nobody cares.  If I make the goal of 10 lbs. I may buy myself an 89-93 Mustang Convert 5.0.  And a nice one.  Any suggestions as to presents?  I would say a trip from San Diego to Florida through the Panama Canal, but I would gain the 10 lbs and probably then some.        Geoff

Golden Corral

February 5th, 2009 by bristow64

Here is an observation I have made.  Folk in Golden Corral and similar buffets do not look like they are enjoying themselves.  The food is good and variety is great, but it seems like there is a kind of sadness about the place.  I will try to remember this the next time I am tempted to indulge at the buffet.  I can take in 1,000 calories from the dessert bar alone.  And breakfast is the worst.      Geoff

Looking forward to starting 52 dc

February 4th, 2009 by bristow64

By golly, this should be interesting.  Call me a wimp, call be unrealistic, call me anything just don’t call me late for dinner.  I am planning  2000 calorie days, pretty heavy on the protein, 5 sets of lifts, 8 reps, 60 lbs total.  50 sit ups.  Then, walk 2.5 mi in 40 min.  That should provide a calorie deficit of 700-800 cal per day, for a 10 lb loss for the project.  Will have one day a week off, otherwise will do no backsliding.  Tuna Tuesday is a separate project, will eat only tuna,  soda crackers, fruit, and a grilled cheese sandwich.  This should be 1500 calories to kind of cinch the deal.

Tuna day and other stuff

February 3rd, 2009 by bristow64

Now, what is this Tuna Day?  Is it a free form event or does it have rules?  Seems like the soothsayer(s) say it happens on Tuesday but that is all the poop and skinny I have seen.  Does the tuna fish need to be straight out of the can?  Is it the only thing you eat that day?  It is a great idea.  I am down for any other days, and since I am new here feel bashful about suggesting anything else.  By the way, if you do not have fresh lemon for tuna, Long John’s vinegar or some sort of malt vinegar works pretty well, and even cheap apple cider vinegar serves.  Avoid that reconstituted lemon stuff, use of it leads to madness.    Geoff

Goals Still formulating

February 1st, 2009 by bristow64

I am still formulating my goals.  May go easy on the weight training because, well, I hate it so.  Have found that when I set up something that I abhor then I end up not doing it and then hating myself, then here comes the black dog  (Winston Churchill’s name for the depression he sometimes got).  Walking is a must, I can just feel the tension and anxiety ooze out of my head when I walk outside or a different place.  May alternate the mall with one of two parks that are pretty close by.  Thanks for listening.  Geoff

About me

January 30th, 2009 by bristow64

I am 61 years old, will soon be 62.  Have 2 adult children, I like them very much.  I weigh 253, 5′11″,  started about 257-258 at 1/1/09.  Current plan is 2000 calories daily, 3 sessions of sit ups, 5 sessions of lifting 30 lb dumbells, shallow knee bends, and walking 2.5 mi in 45 minutes.  Have some problem with one knee but expect that to be manageable when I get close to target weight of 210.  Want to be at 210 by 12/1/09 to try snow skiing for the 4th time to see if I can get the hang of it.  If not, no more snow skiing.  Love to play outside and do things children like to do like splash in the water and such.

Getting ready

January 29th, 2009 by bristow64

Am really looking forward to getting started.  In the past when I have looked forward to some kind of contest the outcome has been better than expected.  Am already paying attention but will increase cardio efforts by 30% and weight training by 20%.  Also will do tuna day and observe missing 3 clean eating blocks per week.
